Voyage to the centre of the Earth!

Today I was almost swallowed up, when a giant chasm opened up in the ground before me!

After I had steadied myself, and the ground had finally stopped shaking, I decided that I would attempt to climb down into the crevasse. However, I was still weary from my recent walk of over twenty-six miles, and had no safety equipment other than my sturdy boots. By good fortune though, I was wearing my pink & purple ladybug watch. It glows in the dark when you press the button, which is always useful.

After making my initial descent, I was amazed to suddenly hear voices coming towards me. I listened intently, trying to make sense of what I was hearing.

It was my friends saying, "What on earth are you up to? I suppose you want us to take some more pictures for your blog now?"

To my utter astonishment, I found that I was in the Tate Modern art gallery and that the giant chasm was actually Art.

Try-athlon: a marathon walk

Four brave walkers, our hearts full of hope, two coffees-to-go, and a mere twenty-six (and a bit) miles lay ahead of us . . .

We passed all manner of exciting landmarks.

We tried hard to keep our shopping and snack breaks to an absolute minimum.

Looking at the map is always a good excuse to sit down for a minute.

Canary Wharf

By the end of the walk, I was on my last legs as never before. We had been walking for several hours and night had fallen - as had my spirits. Oh boy, did my legs hurt! Sadly, I became a complete gibbering mess and I wholeheartedly thank the kindly bearded gentleman who helped me to stagger along for the last few 100 yards.
Thanks so much to all of the marathon walkers and to the many generous non-walkers who sponsored us via the Lucky Pups competition. Together we raised over £100 for Guide Dogs.

Here's to a nice long rest before Try-athlon 2008!

Breakfast of champions

After a hard night's work, what could be finer than a full English breakfast?

Note: how the bearded gentleman is passing the HP Sauce onto another diner . . . or perhaps he is re-applying the HP after having restricted his sauce levels on the first attempt?

I usually prefer my full breakfast to include fried mushrooms. I'm also not convinced that chips/fries or hash browns are traditional items - but who cares?! Huzzah for fried breakfasts in all of their many varieties!

Try-athlon: great big bike ride

This event was another of London's pro-fitness/anti-car gestures. But as gestures go, it was loads of fun!



Cycling around in traffic-free central London was great - although the streets were by no means deserted.

There were free sandwiches, but they disappeared in the blink of an eye and my camera just wasn't quick enough!

We even won prizes!

What a shame though, that these superheroes weren't super enough to fly us all the way back home.

Try-athlon: 5k run

Here we are looking super-fit and ready to run. Despite having only been for a few training runs together, we were ready to give our all to this event.

What a splendid medal! No, I didn't win the race - everyone who finished the run was given an identical medal.

A big Thank You to my running companion for persuading me to enter this race and for being so keen about our training runs. Huzzah for running, for friendship, and for fitness!

Afternoon tea

When it's your birthday, what could be nicer than a spot of afternoon tea?

We went to the Dorchester Hotel, which was lovely.


The sandwiches were really tasty - and mine were full of vegetarian yummy things. My plate is, of course, the one with the most sandwiches heaped upon it.

The cakes were a bit fancy for my simple tastes, but I ate two or three for the sake of politeness.

Afternoon tea is great!

Home-grown veggies - part 4

I'm smiling on the outside, but inside I'm deeply disappointed. This was pretty much our entire zucchini harvest - apart from one other quite large specimen. Not exactly the 'bumper harvest with zucchini bread for all' that I'd been hoping for.

Kew Gardens

I went for a super day out at Kew Gardens today. The weather was warm and sunny.

There was so much natural loveliness to see. Plus, I could get in for free with my bubble land pass - huzzah!

I must try to visit here Moore often!
