Brief but wonderful

When I entered the kitchen this morning, there were strange patterns of light and shade all over the floor. The floor tiles looked as if they were striped, rather than plain. It was really weird.

It was a little bit disappointing to realise that it was just caused by light reflecting from the curved surface of our shiny bin (trashcan). I had hoped for fairies or some other kind of special, magical reason.

However, the effect only lasted for about five minutes - while the sun was in exactly the right position to shine through the hall window and all the way into the kitchen. I suspect that this is only a late autumn/early spring thing too - related to the sun being very low in the sky.
So maybe it was a tiny bit magical after all?
